Rwanda Book Drive: Take a Page from Zainab's book
Student activist, Zainab Khan (14), and George School educator/activist, Ofonedu Ime-Goodwyn helped organize one of the book drives currently under way in the United States to get books for Bugesera District, East Province, Rwanda. These are photos from the day that Ofonedu picked up the books in Jersey City, New Jersey. Zainab is an inspirational young leader and who is doing work for African nations and for her native Pakistan. Through her initiative, she was able collect a staggering amount of 6,000 books. A great example of a youth helping other youth to empower themselves through education. Inspiring! Zainab will be likely be mentioned in O Magazine as she is an O Ambassador at her school and was mentioned in Jersey Journal.
HOW CAN YOU HELP WITH CREATING THE FIRST LIBRARY IN EAST PROVINCE, RWANDA?
1) Support the effort to raise $18,000 for purchase of books from African Writers Series and for transportation of all books collected from abroad
2) Start a book and multimedia resource drive with your organization or network
FYI: Other projects in Rwanda to get more books into the country:
1) Kigali Public Library - the first initiative started for the capital city by Rotary Club with assistance from Zachary Kaufman
2) a mobile library project started by performer/activist, Carol Caramela, organizer of FESPAD
