The Remaining Gisimba Orphan/Student Interviews

Damas Gisimba (left) and Ildephonse with the orphans at Gisimba Memorial Center

Gisimba Memorial Center is a refuge that accepts all kids and helps them with food, health and schools. Even though there is not enough room there for everyone, Gisimba places children with local families and supplies them with basic needs.

In my first weekend in Kigali, I arranged to sit down and talk with the students of Gisimba orphanage. With help from a translator, I was able to spend a little time to get to know some of these extraordinary young adults in half hour sessions with each. The group was reflective, thoughtful and insightful while exhibiting the determination to beat the odds and succeed for themselves and their communities. Rwanda should be proud to have these individuals as part of their society and future. The following are photos along with a brief bio on 20 of the students there needing sponsors. (5 more bios pending interviews)  - August 18, 2008

I will post the remaining profiles of students needing sponsors this week.  The remaining five were already at their respective schools by the time I arrived in Kigali, August 8th.  Currently, I am visiting each of them individually at their school.
Thanks to Ildephonse for coming on long bus rides with me to help translate and facilitate these interviews.
