Lulan Artisans is a for-profit social venture that designs, produces and markets contemporary textiles. We work with artisans in Cambodia, Laos, Thailand, Vietnam and India to create stable jobs, strengthen communities, and help prevent human trafficking. Our "bottom up" approach invigorates artistic processes that have been used for centuries. Our years of in-depth work with Lulan's weaving partners has shown that true sustainability has four critical components - economic, cultural, environmental and social. We hire both men and women artisans, pay ample wages and open new markets.

We are launching a new division, we’ve – a game-changing e-commerce website. we’ve is a curated online marketplace that uses storytelling for sustainable social impact. We’ve focuses on artisan goods from every corner of the globe and in diverse product categories (i.e. textiles, jewelry, recyclable materials, ceramics, basketry, metalwork, woodwork, glasswork).

About the position

The Product/Design Consultant will manage product and design development activities for the we’ve website with guidance from Founder/CEO. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Work directly with artisan cooperatives: creating contemporary sophisticated initial designs (sketches, sample photos, other) with artisans while highlighting artisans’ expertise and techniques, product specifications, ensuring quality, sampling, modifying samples to reach approved final product and scheduling product launch Employ we’ve sustainable process, sustainable materials and stable livelihoods’ philosophy Manage designs of renowned designers following same process described above Assist in identifying, approving and managing new artisan cooperative partnerships Acquire costing to set market prices Follow we’ve product code system-update and maintain all product codes Leverage all communication mediums (phone, skype, email, dropbox, Picasa, etc.) for ongoing smooth cooperative communications and partnerships Coordinate schedule with other we’ve employees to ensure editorial and photos for each product are ready for website product launch. Meet deadlines for approved products for website launch

Experience and qualifications

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in design or equivalent experience Minimum of three years experience in design, international artisan product development, project management and project scheduling Solid understanding of the desired targeted consumer products Passionate about the opportunity to make an impact through design on artisans’ lives and communities Ability to work independently and contribute to a team Strong detailed skills to work remotely with international cooperatives a must Excellent writing and communication skills, creative ability, and knowledge of visual design Able to work on-site in San Francisco and independently Computer skills regarding ongoing daily applications (i.e. Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, scheduling software) and in addition, knowledge of specific drawing/graphic applications to easily share designs and collaborate with artisans.

Starting date ASAP

Time Commitment Initial: Part-time position. Future: Strong potential for full-time position

Compensation Commensurate with experience
